Eifel Eppelsberg Location: 50.120 ° N, 7.086° E Elevation: 281 m The Eppelsberg near Nickenich is a typical cinder cone volcano in the Eastern Eifel, which was  active about 230,000 years ago. The deposits that make up the Eppelsberg come from five outbreak phases. The volcano is in active mining, making the individual layers of deposits visible and  exposed up to 70 meters high wall. Due to the eruption of the Laacher See volcano about 12,900 years ago, the entire Eppelsberg volcano was covered by a pumice layer.  (Wikipedia) Google Earth Google Earth Photo: Rolf Cosar Photo: Rolf Cosar Photo: Rolf Cosar Photo: Rolf Cosar Photo: Rolf Cosar Photo: Rolf Cosar HOME              Nickenich, Juni 2001
